- No, it's because they were set up that way. When the newgroup was created, it
- was agreed that it was for discussion _only_, i.e. no binaries. In fact,
- nearly all newsgroups in the comp.* hierarchy were created with this
- precondition. And in the main, any comp.* group which _does_ carry binaries is
- moderated.

- If you flout these conventions, it is likely that a) binary posts will be
- cancelled (you have seen this already) b) some news servers will stop
- carrying the "offending" groups altogether (this may happen in the future).

- Posting binaries to non-binary groups also costs users money, time, storage
- space and bandwidth, and in doing so annoys a lot of them, because they assume
- that the newsgroup will be used as it was intended - for discussion, not as
- a distributed FTP site.

- The solution is simple: if you don't like the way a particular newsgroup was
- set up / is managed, create a new one.
